I think you're right to hope. Some people are just on a weird timeline, and a lot don't bother to check email. I had a similar experience with a obscure comic artist. I'd have thought she'd be glad of the compliment to her work, eager to pop it in the mail. Not too complicated to stuff a stack of comic books in an envelope, right?
